Recycling Sites

There are four [4] Solid Waste and Recycling sites in Oglethorpe County:

·  Simston District Community, located on Centerville Road,

    one mile south of the Elberton Road

    1-5 Sunday & Wednesday      

    9-1 Friday   

    9-4 Saturday

         ·  Devils Pond Community, at the intersection of

        Devils Pond Road and Crawford Smithonia Road

         7-1 Wednesday & Friday      

         1-5 Thursday   

         9-4 Saturday

    · Maxeys Community, located off Hill Street

        1-5 Thursday                     

        7-1 Friday       

        9-4 Saturday

    ·  C&D Landfill, on Athens Road between Lexington and Crawford

        8-4:45 Monday-Friday         

        8-11:45 Saturday

You can combine all of your paper items.

 Paper items include:

1.   Newspapers & Inserts

2.   Shredded Paper (Must be in a clear plastic bag)

3.    Magazines & Catalogues (Please remove any plastic wrap)

4.    Brown paper bags

5.    Office paper-copy paper, letterhead, computer printouts, slick and glossy paper, envelopes, colored paper.

6.    Cardboard (broken down) & Paste board

7.    Paperback Books, Junk Mail, Paper Bags, and Telephone Books

8.    PLEASE – no carbon paper, paper plates, napkins, paper towels or tissue.  These should be put in a green bag.

You can also combine all of your container items.

Container items include:  (PLEASE RINSE PRIOR TO DISPOSAL)

1.     Food Cans – Steel, bi-metal, and tin

2.     Aluminum – Cans, Foil, and Pans

3.     Glass Bottles & Jars - Clear, brown, green, & blue (Please remove the lids)

4.     Plastic Bottles – Marked  with a circled 1 or 2 ONLY (opening must be smaller than circumference   of container)- Also including plastic motor oil bottles (drained, not rinsed)

5.     Milk & Juice Cartons

6.     Drink Boxes – remove straws

7.     Aerosol Cans – Only if EMPTY & labeled NON-HAZARDOUS (Please remove lids)

8.     Rigid Plastic-(laundry baskets, tubs, buckets, trash cans & more)

ALL RECYLABLES NEED TO BE CLEAN, DRY, AND UN-BAGGED

The following are not allowed and should not be placed in the recycling:

1.     FACIAL TISSUES (KLEENEX)

2.     TOILET PAPER

3.     NAPKINS

4.     PAPER TOWELS

5.     WAX COATED CARDBOARD BOXES

6.     PLASTIC BAGS (ONLY TAKEN AT LOCAL GROCERY STORES)

7.     LIGHT BULBS

8.     WINDOW PANES OR OTHER PLATE GLASS

9.     MIRRORS

10.   POTTERY OR CERAMICS

11.   PLASTIC CUPS, PLATES, AND/OR CUTLERY

12.   PAPER CUPS AND PLATES

13.   DIAPERS

14.   FOOD SOILED PAPER

15.   ZIP LOCK AND PLASTIC FOOD BAGS

16.   STYROFOAM PRODUCTS

 EFFORTS ARE BEING MADE TO RECYCLE MORE PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE.  WE WILL NOTIFY EVERYONE AS THESES CHANGES TAKE PLACE.

GREEN BAGS:

ALL HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE THAT WILL FIT IN THE GREEN BAGS IS ALLOWED, LARGER ITEMS MUST BE TAKEN TO THE COUNTY LANDFILL.

LARGE BAGS (30 GALLONS) ARE $1.00 EACH

SMALL BAGS (13 GALLONS) ARE $.50 EACH
